What: 15k Skate with shorter distances for younger skiers

Where: White Pine Nordic Center in Park City

When: Saturday, January 5, 10:00am start

Who: Skiers of all ages and speeds! There are beginner/novice catagories as well as age groups!

U.S. Championships

Next week Soldier Hollow is hosting the U.S. Cross Country Championships! These races happen every year (in various locations throughout the U.S.) and serve as qualifiers for International trips like Junior World Championships and the J1 Scandinavia Cup Trip. For the older racers they are also important races for qualifying for World Championships, World Cups and other International races.

Here is the race schedule for next week:

Friday, January 4th, Individual Start Skate Distance
           Women's 10k Skate 10:00am
           Men's 15k Skate 12:00pm

            Women TBA

Tuesday, January 8th, Skate Sprint
           Qualification 10:00am

            Finals 12:30pm

Team Soldier Hollow has 5 skiers racing in the first 3 races and we would love to see you out cheering and learning from all of these speedy skiers! If you're lucky you may even bump into an Olympian =)

The racing continues tomorrow in Sun Valley with a 10k classic mass start!

Racing Kicks Off Saturday!

The race season kicks off tomorrow with a large group (Comp, Devo & Youth League) at the Wasatch Citizen Series race and a small Comp Team crew in Sun Valley, ID at the Intermountain Series Opener. Look for the new bright blue and green suits flying around the trails! Results will be posted at the links below:

Parent Volunteer Training

We will be having volunteer training for Charter School and Youth League parent volunteers this Wednesday and Thursday (Dec 19 & 20) 10:00 - 11:30am. Both days will cover the same material so no need to attend both. We will go over indoor and outdoor volunteer opportunities as well as a brief beginner lesson for those interested in skiing with the groups.

West Yellowstone Camp!

Greetings from West Yellowstone! We have had 4 solid days of training thus far with a combination of skiing, running, strength and even a few scavenger hunts. Check it out...

Daniels Summit

Daniels Summit is groomed and great skiing! I would still bring rock skis as the first few k's have a few rocks but once you get out there it is amazing!!!

It was so good we are headed back for more tomorrow!!! After that? Headed to West Yellowstone for lots of skiing on the plateau!

This morning we had a longer workout and it was raining on the already wet slushy ground. So, we grabbed the Evos (waxless classic ski good for ungroomed skiing) and set out in search of snow. Check it out....

We were pleasantly surprised to find fresh snow on the ground and falling from the sky! They haven't started grooming yet and there are a few people driving the road in search of Christmas trees but it was perfect for a classic tour!!!

Agony Hill

Today the Comp Team met up with TUNA and PC Nordic to do the Agony Hill Time Trial. This is a hill climb out of Salt Lake City that skiers have done for the past 30(or so) years. The Regional Elite Group camp does it every summer as do many other teams.  It is a great way to see improvement in fitness so we will be doing it a few times a year.

Skate Speed!

Another successful wednesday Workout in the books!

U.S. Ski Team member Jessie Diggins was able to join us but on skis this time! Here she is demonstrating v2 technique.

This week's workout was skate speed. Above the older skiers are doing a mass start speed. The younger skiers had an opportunity to jump in behind the older skiers and try to keep up. It is a great way to learn new technique and get faster! Huge improvements by all since we started these workouts!

U.S Ski Team Visits Wednesday Workout

We were lucky to have a visit from U.S. Ski Team member Jessie Diggins at today's Regional Wednesday workout!!!! Jessie wasn't able to ski with us today but she spent some time answering questions and talking to the kids.

U.S. Ski Team coach Bryan Fish also joined us for today's workout. He helped the younger kids with some double pole technique during today's distance classic rollerski.

Wednesday Group Workout

The Wednesday Group Workouts are getting more and more successful! Yesterday we had skiers from TUNA, Wasatch Academy, Team Soldier Hollow, and a few randoms. The older kids did some tough intervals while the younger kids worked on agility, balance, technique, and FUN!

Pretty exciting to see skiers of all ages out on rollerskis! Winter will be here soon =)
